MU

By supporting marriage and family life, especially in times of adversity, MU (formerly Mothers Union) tackles the most urgent needs challenging relationships and communities.

Members of MU are not all mothers, nor all women.  They include men, single, married, parents, grandparents and young adults just beginning to express their social conscience.

For all four million members what MU provides is a network through which they can serve Christ in their own community through prayer, financial support and actively working at the grass roots level in programs that meet local needs.

MU at Holy Cross

Holy Cross MU meet on the 3^rd Tuesdays in the months when Diocesan Events are not held. Meetings start at 10.00 am with prayer and Bible reading.  Meetings close at 12 noon with “Wave of Prayer”  Midday Prayers with special mention of each Diocese in each country as set by a Prayer Diary for the year.  Members are encouraged to pray this prayer in their daily observance, at midday or any time during the day that fits in with their life.

Meetings are open to all, and all are most welcome.  We aim to make meetings varied and interesting.  We plan a roster for morning tea and celebrate members’ birthdays near to their day.

Subscriptions are invited to people taking on membership, as we are part of MU Australia.  These cover the magazines and Prayer Diaries, and expenses such as Travel Funds for executives as they travel to represent MU. Our funds contribute to Australian General Fund, Australian Projects (Overseas & Northern Outreach, Aboriginal Scholarships), and an Australian and Overseas Project.

Aims and Purpose:  To demonstrate the Christian faith in action by transformation of communities world-wide through the nurture of family life in its many forms.

Objectives:
1. To promote and support married life
2. To encourage parents in their role to develop the faith of their children
3. To maintain a worldwide fellowship of Christians united in prayer, worship and service
4. To promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children
5. To help those whose family life has met with adversity.

Mia Mia is a quarterly magazine of Anglican MU Australia. It is an Aboriginal word for “home” and also for “Mother” in the Wathawurung and Wuywurung languages.

MU Australia is part of the world-wide Mothers Union which is an organisation within the Anglican Church, with more than four million members in 83 countries.

Holy Cross is very active in MU in the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn and will host MU Diocesan events in 2019.

Diocesan MU events usually begin with the Eucharist and include Guest Speakers, Displays and lunch provided by members. Diocesan Days are held on Wednesdays.

Diocesan Days:

Lady Day honouring Mary – Mother of Jesus
Overseas and Outreach Day honouring our links around the world
Mary Sumner Day the founder of MU in the United Kingdom
Advent Service where we give thanks for the coming of Christ.
