John 11:1–45 recounts the raising of Lazarus and reveals Jesus’ power over death. Lazarus, a man from Bethany and the brother of Mary and Martha, falls ill. The sisters send word to Jesus, but He delays His visit. By the time Jesus arrives, Lazarus has been dead four days. Martha expresses faith that Jesus could have healed him, and Jesus responds, “I am the resurrection and the life.” Mary weeps, and Jesus, deeply moved, also weeps, showing His compassion. At the tomb, Jesus prays and calls Lazarus out. Lazarus emerges alive, still wrapped in burial cloths. This miracle leads many witnesses to believe in Jesus. The passage highlights both Jesus’ humanity and divine authority, demonstrating that He brings life even in the face of death and calling people to trust in Him.
