The Gospel reading is John 3:1–17 which records Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus about being “born again.” Nicodemus, a Pharisee, visits Jesus at night, recognizing Him as a teacher from God. Jesus explains that no one can see God’s kingdom unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Physical birth is not enough; spiritual rebirth is necessary. He compares the Spirit to the wind—unseen but powerful. Jesus then speaks of being “lifted up” so that all who believe may have eternal life. The passage declares God’s love: He sent His Son not to condemn the world, but to save it.
